NEW CONCEPT - LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

Dear participants,

in our preparations for the 7th International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart in May 2009 we have taken your wishes and ideas into account. From you, who are striving towards a career in music and who must meet the high requirements of the present time, we have received over the years a great deal of feedback and ideas which we have now been able to put into practice in a new musical concept. Isabelle Faust shows us the way, as you can read below.

We, the organizers and especially our Artistic Director, Julius Berger, are delighted to be able to incorporate many of your wishes in these current developments for your future career. We invite you most cordially to join us in this new approach to our artistic program. We look forward to seeing you!

"I feel that my generation has to be more flexible and
I’m looking forward to play my newly purchased
Baroque instrument."

Isabelle Faust, the Award Winner of the 1st International
Violin Competition Leopold Mozart 1987, The Strad, August 2007

With the high musical demands in mind which
modern day violinists are expected to fulfil, the 7th
International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart
has now created a new concept.

>> For the first time the required repertoire takes into
account the performance practices of all style
epochs – from early baroque to avantgarde.

>> Further, the programme has been extended to
include Chamber Music.

>> The Instruments and the bows may be selected
as desired, that means, that candidates have the
possibility to present their musical and historical
knowledge on a modern instrument or an instrument
that meets the respective period of the work.

With this new concept, the Competition Board
wishes to create new impulses and at the same
time as historic recognition, to encourage and
implement music for the modern day.
